Avalanche Peak

Arthur’s Pass National Park is easily accessible from The Doug Log House, and one great day trip is Avalanche Peak, although it is fairly steep, with approximately 1100m of ascent & descent.

Once above the bush line, there are extensive views with the sights including Devils Punchbowl Falls, Arthur’s Pass itself, the partly glaciated Mt Rolleston (one of the highest peaks in Arthur’s Pass National Park), and south towards the Waimakariri River and Bealey Spur.
